Apathy on social media as Newcastle are linked with Berge

Newcastle United brought in Joe Willock from Arsenal before the summer transfer window shut, but Football League World say the Magpies are on the hunt for another midfielder. United are said to be monitoring the progress of Sander Berge and may have to battle Rangers for his signature.

Berge wanted out of Sheffield United after their relegation from the Premier League, but he remains at Brammall Lane and has played in every Championship game this season. The Blades are winless after five games, however, so Berge could be moved on at the next available opportunity.

Newcastle aren’t short of options in the engine room with Willock, Isaac Hayden, Sean Longstaff, Jonjoe Shelvey and Jeff Hendrick, but the futures of the Longstaff brothers are uncertain. Berge could fill the void left by the pair, but supporters on social media are apathetic about the prospect of him joining.

The 23-year-old joined the Blades on a four-year deal from KRC Genk in January 2020 and has gone on to make 37 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals with two assists.
