Excitement on social media as Newcastle agree to match Willock’s asking price

Newcastle have yet to make a signing this summer and their opening game of the new season is only 12 days away, but the Magpies may be closing in on an important acquisition that will excite supporters on social media.

Luke Taylor of the Telegraph says Newcastle have agreed to match Arsenal’s £22m asking price for Joe Willock, so a move may depend on the 21-year-old. Willock isn’t commanding a starting place at Arsenal but would be a regular at Newcastle, so he needs to think what is best for his career.

Willock spent the second half of last season on loan at Newcastle and went on to make 14 appearances in all competitions, scoring an impressive eight goals from midfield. Reports say he’s open to staying at Newcastle but might be given a chance back at Arsenal, so Willock has a genuine dilemma.

Newcastle supporters are pleading for Willock to return to the North-East as he needs first-team football for the sake of his career, but Arsenal are his boyhood club. The 21-year-old has made 78 appearances across the board for the Gunners but started less than half the games, so he might need to admit defeat.
