The last time Newcastle beat Man City at St James Park

Newcastle United suffered a 4-3 defeat to Manchester City in Friday’s Premier League meeting at St James’ Park – their fourth consecutive loss to the champions in all competitions.

They’ve also failed to beat City in their third consecutive home clash, so Read Newcastle looked into when the Toon Army last beat the Sky Blues in their own backyard – it was January 29, 2019.

Newcastle pulled off a 2-1 win over City in front of more than 50,000 supporters at St James’ Park, courtesy of goals from Salomon Rondon and Matt Ritchie.

City actually went ahead in the game through Sergio Aguero. In the first minute of the game, he latched onto a cutback to finish from close range. Newcastle responded in the second half, however.

City failed to clear their lines and Rondon reacted quickly to a header back into the box, volleying past Ederson in the 66th minute. And in the 80th minute, Newcastle took the lead. Ritchie scored from the spot after Sean Longstaff was fouled in the area to give the hosts all three points.
