Newcastle fans react to journalists update on Almiron

A number of Newcastle United supporters have reacted to the latest update from reliable South American journalist Roberto Rojas outlining that Miguel Almiron could still be a part of Paraguay’s squad during the international break at the end of the month.

Newcastle have been hit with a major double blow, with the club confirming on Tuesday that both Allan Saint-Maximin and Almiron are set to be out until at least April with respective groin and knee injuries. That means the influential duo join Callum Wilson on the treatment table and leaves them without their best three attacking players for at least the next few matches.

Almiron, who has enjoyed a return to near his best form over recent weeks since Steve Bruce’s shift to a more adventurous formation, will now be set to miss crucial matches against West Brom, Aston Villa and Brighton over the coming weeks.

However, according to reports from Rojas, the attacker is now confident that he could be back ready to make it into Paraguay’s squad for forthcoming matches against Chile and Colombia scheduled for the end of March.

That would be a potential major risk given he will only just have returned and will not have had any real training time to get match sharpness back.

Some Newcastle fans were left bemused as to why the club would allow him to link up with Paraguay if he is out for them for the rest of the month. While there were even some questioning whether quarantine rules might play an even greater role in determining whether he should be allowed to link up with his national team.

matchday.
