Newcastle fans react to Brandon Williams loan update

A number of Newcastle United fans have been reacting to the latest report from the Shields Gazette that the Magpies have agreed the framework over a potential loan move for Manchester United’s Brandon Williams.

Williams enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at Old Trafford last season and he showed his quality by averaging 1.2 tackles, 0.9 successful dribbles and 0.8 key passes per game (Sofascore).

However, he has made just one Premier League appearance so far this season, while he has featured twice in their unsuccessful Champions League group stage campaign and twice in the Carabao Cup (Sofascore). Williams has also been linked with a potential move to Southampton, while Bayern Leverkusen are said to be interested as well, according to The Sun.

Newcastle have been linked with a potential move for the full-back and it has now emerged that Steve Bruce could be closing in on his first signing of the January transfer window. Manchester United are prepared for him to leave on loan and have agreed the framework for a potential temporary move to St James’ Park, as reported by Shields Gazette.

Many Newcastle fans were sceptical over the need to sign Williams and were disappointed that it likely spells the end of Jetro Willems’ rumoured return to Tyneside. However, some supporters would welcome the potential arrival of the Manchester United youngster on loan – one fan believes he would be an ugrade on Magpies full-back Jamal Lewis, who has faced strong criticism since his arrival from Norwich last summer.
