Steve Bruce will be without both Paul Dummett and Jetro Willems for the rest of the season.

Dummett suffered a leg tendon injury against Wolves, while Willems ruptured his ACL against Chelsea, with the pair now expected to be out for the remainder of the campaign.

The only positive for the Magpies is that they still have time to bring in a replacement for the injured pair, and following recent events, a move for Tottenham left-back Danny Rose, in our opinion, could be a shrewd deal by the club.

That’s because the England international has reportedly been involved in a heated exchange with Jose Mourinho after being left out of the Spurs squad for the game against Watford last weekend, according to the Daily Mail.

To us, a move for Rose would be an excellent piece of business deep into the January window.

He’s only made 12 Premier League appearances this season but boasts a wealth of top-flight knowledge.

In total, Rose has turned out 183 times for Spurs in the league, and if he is keen on leaving this month, could find himself being offered a regular role at St James’ Park, should the club make a move.

We feel that Bruce needs to act at left-back, with the versatile Matt Ritchie his only real remaining option in that area.

Rose would provide Bruce with a reliable option in a troubled area, and a deal could turn out to be priceless if he solved Bruce’s left-back woes.

Yes, he’d probably command a large wage, but with the player reportedly involved in a bust-up with Mourinho, and his contract set to expire in 2021, a deal, in our view, could well be possible.

A solid second half of the season could also boost his chances of securing a spot in Gareth Southgate’s European Championship squad, so we feel as though a move for the 29-year-old would do both the player and the Magpies a world of good.
