Newcastle flop Riviere set for England return and fans can’t believe it

Former Newcastle striker Emmanuel Riviere looks set for a shock move back to England with Championship side Brentford.

According to Football Insider, they are keen to bring in the French striker after he left Metz over the summer.

The player is available for nothing and could be the man to replace Neal Maupay, who left for Brighton earlier in the summer.

Riviere’s time at Newcastle was memorable for all the wrong reasons, as he scored just the one league goal in 26 league appearances.

Newcastle fans will no doubt be keeping an eye on how he does and judging by some of the reactions from these supporters online, the news has come as a bit of a shock.

Callum here can’t quite make his mind up!

While others are simply in disbelief.

Could Brentford be the place where he finally finds a home?

Summer signing Joelinton has already been compared to Riviere by some Newcastle fans, so they’ll be keeping a close eye on the player if he does join the Championship outfit.

Since leaving Newcastle he really hasn’t kicked on as he would’ve hoped. A poor spell in La Liga was followed by a move to Metz, where he scored five times in his first season back in Ligue 1.

Just the two goals in 15 Ligue 2 appearances came the following season and he is now once again looking for a new club.

Brentford will be hoping that the striker has learnt from his previous spell in England is now ready for a second attempt.
