It seems like Rafa Benitez’s future as Newcastle United manager is in doubt every summer due to a lack of financial backing, but he’s actually signed a lot of players during his three years in charge.
23 permanent signings to be precise, yet the £20million paid to sign Miguel Almiron from Atalanta United in January was the one to break the club’s 14-year transfer record paid for Michael Owen in 2005.
That big money transfer earlier this year could hint at a sign of the times though and Benitez could be in for a summer of backing from the Newcastle owners.
We’re here to talk about the signings the Spaniard has made already at St. James’ Park though. From preparing for the Championship in 2016, to preparing for a return to the Premier League in 2017, to preparing to maintain the club’s status as a mid-table top-flight club in 2018.
Here are his top signings as Magpies boss so far.
