Newcastle’s deal for Lazio left-back Jordan Lukaku has reportedly broken down, and any prospective move is now off.
It had been reported earlier this week that the Magpies had reached an agreement to sign Lukaku, younger brother of Manchester United striker Romelu, however a deal now looks dead in the water.
Lukaku had been on Tyneside for a medical in order to complete his loan switch until the end of the season, until the deal broke down, for as of yet unspecified reasons.
The club released a statement, as quoted by the Northern Echo, which read:
Newcastle can confirm that Jordan Lukaku will not be joining the club. The Belgian defender was on Tyneside on Friday after being given permission to travel by his current club, SS Lazio.
It has now been decided that a loan deal will not be pursued and the player will return to Rome. We wish Jordan all the best for the future.
