The Magpies travel to Vicarage Road this weekend as they look to secure their place in the top half.
A win for Watford will guarantee their Premier League survival, so both sides still have something to play for in the capital.
After a good run of form, Newcastle have lost their last two, including a 1-0 loss to bottom of the league West Brom last time out, so boss Rafa Benitez will be eager to get back to winning ways.
Watford have won their last three games against Newcastle, however, the Hornets are without a win in their last seven games, and will need to improve their performances to beat the Geordies.
The North East club have never won at Vicarage Road in the top flight, and they will be without striker Islam Slimani through suspension, plus injuries to Christian Atsu and Mikel Merino.
Here are some of the key battles which will help decide who comes away from Vicarage Road with the points…
Jonjo Shelvey vs Will Hughes
Shelvey is pivotal to Newcastle. If he has space and time in the middle, he will pick out deadly passes to get the likes of Dwight Gayle in behind the Watford defence.
Hornets midfielder Hughes is similar in style in that he likes to get on the ball and dictate. Both midfielders will be trying to impose themselves on the game early doors and get their foot on the ball.
Dwight Gayle vs Craig Cathcart
Shelvey often looks for Dwight Gayles runs and puts balls on a sixpence in behind defences. Gayle will likely pull onto the centre-half which he feels he has the legs on, so Cathcart will have to be alert to the striker’s movement.
Kenedy vs Adrian Mariappa
On-loan Chelsea winger Kenedy has been impressive since signing in January. The Brazilian will look to beat his full-back at every opportunity.
He comes up against Adrian Mariappa, who is primarily a centre-half, so this is an area Rafa Benitez may look to exploit.
Mohamed Diame vs Etienne Capoue
Two powerful players in the middle of the park. Diame and Capoue will be the ball winners in the midfield and this will definitely be a battle to keep an eye on.
As well as being strong in the tackle, both players also have a goal in them so it will be interesting to see who comes out on top on Saturday.
