Newcastle allowed to keep away fans ‘up in the Gods’

Newcastle United have won their first battle of the season, after they were told they would be allowed to keep away fans up in the ‘Gods’ at St James’ Park for the upcoming season, according to The Mail.

New rules are set to come in to play next season where top-flight clubs must place visiting supporters at pitch side, for a better atmosphere and a better product on the screen according to the Premier League.

Premier League chief Richard Scudamore has explained the reasons for the change:

It’s about atmosphere, one of the unique things about our game, particularly in England, is the amount of away fans and the noise they create. When an away goal is scored, you want that atmosphere and interaction between the two sets of fans.

It is believed that Newcastle have been granted a year’s dispensation to look into the issue and make a change for next year.
