Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez is confident that his team can achieve promotion by focusing solely on themselves and not the team’s around them.
The magpies were disappointing defensively against Norwich at Carrow Road on Tuesday as they came from behind to gain a 2-2 draw.
Benitez believes his team have an outstanding chance of returning to the Premier League immediately as reported by the Daily Star, commenting: “If we get four points every two games – we will be up. If we can create chances and get a point you have to be happy.”
Karl Darlow made a terrible mistake to gift Norwich a 2-1 lead on Tuesday but Benitez was proud of the way his team responded to that error to gain an important point in what is turning into a fascinating race for the title.
Following Brighton’s 2-0 win at Barnsley on Saturday, Newcastle are two points off the lead but will return to the top of the Championship if they beat Aston Villa in a cracking match on Monday night, live on Sky Sports.
Newcastle have been excellent under Benitez losing just seven games in the league and scoring for fun through star strikers Dwight Gayle, Ayoze Perez and Aleksander Mitrovic.
