- Newcastle United to reject cut-price transfer.
- The Magpies set asking price for Vlachodimos.
- Deal to sell shot-stopper proving hard to broker.
Newcastle United are reportedly refusing to lower their asking price for Odysseas Vlachodimos, despite the goalkeeper’s limited role and growing uncertainty over his future.
The Magpies have set a €10 million valuation – around £9 million – for the Greek international according to sources. Newcastle United chiefs are believed to view that as a fair asking price for the shot-stopper.
Newcastle United stand firm
Vlachodimos has struggled to establish himself since arriving at St James’ Park, falling down the pecking order and becoming a somewhat anonymous figure in Eddie Howe’s squad. Despite that, the Magpies are unwilling to negotiate below their valuation.
Brought in for €24 million in 2024, the Magpies strongly believe that the goalkeeper still holds significant value, especially given his international experience and experience at the highest level.
Transfer proving difficult
While Newcastle might not see €10 million as an excessive fee, reports suggest that potential suitors are being put off that valuation. Vlachodimos is currently on loan at Sevilla and the Spanish outfit are keen to extend his stay, but unlikely to cough up that fee.
Currently valued at €4 million according to Transfermarkt, Vlachodimos has been an undisputed starter for the La Liga giants. However, he is currently set to return to Tyneside this summer with no permanent deal agreed.
What’s next for Vlachodimos?
Eddie Howe currently has a settled group of goalkeepers with Nick Pope, Aaron Ramsdale on loan from Southampton and Mark Gillespie all ahead in the pecking order. Opportunities are limited for Vlachodimos at St James’ Park with no route to the number one jersey.
The Greek international is likely to push for a move away to continue getting minutes under his belt. His performances in Spain have shown his quality and capability to operate at a high level, pointing to a future away from Newcastle United.
