Sheyi Ojo – the latest name on Newcastle’s radar

The Mirror sent the Geordie nation into a mad frenzy on Sunday morning as they claimed Mike Ashley had taken back control of transfers from Rafa Benitez, handing managing director Lee Charnley responsibility instead.

Judging by the resulting reaction from The Chronicle and the Daily Mail’s local journalists, Newcastle fans do not have too much to worry about.

As it stands, Benitez retains full control on all potential incomings and outgoings, as this was one of his main concerns upon re-signing for Newcastle in the summer.

The Magpies boss looks to be evaluating both long term and short term options for the team and therefore is still keen on signing both experienced players and youth players, which could explain the latest link with a young Liverpool winger.

According to reports from the Daily Mail, Newcastle are looking at the prospect of signing young Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo. The Reds boss Jurgen Klopp are not too keen on allowing Ojo to leave on loan, meaning this may be another potential target Benitez has to end his pursuit of.

Benitez has been ideally targeting a central midfielder and winger this transfer window but has failed in his pursuit of several targets, such as Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tom Cleverley, already this window.

In light of this, it has reportedly lead to agents offering their clients. Allegedly a dozen players have been offered to Newcastle over the past week, but Benitez does not see any as potential January signings.
