Newcastle United could be set to lose highly-rated assistant coach Ian Cathro to Hearts if fresh reports are to be believed.
Current Hearts boss Robbie Nielson is expected to be unveiled as the new MK Dons boss within the next 48 hours and Cathro has emerged as an early favourite to succeed him.
It is understood that there will be no attempt from Newcastle to stand in Cathro’s way should a managerial job offer arise.
This is not the first time Cathro has been linked with a managerial role since signing for Newcastle last season – he was also linked with the Dundee United vacancy in May.

The 30-year-old arrived on Tyneside in June 2015 as part of Steve McClaren’s backroom staff and was one of the few who survived Benitez’s overhaul in the summer.
A decision on whether to replace Cathro by recruiting externally or promoting from within has not yet been made, The Chronicle have confirmed.
