DeAndre Yedlin’s latest comments regarding Newcastle’s current form highlight the stark contrast in player mentality from last season to now.
Newcastle are currently on an eight-game winning run and have won 15 of their last 17 games, but Yedlin still is not satisfied.
“We have to keep going. These type of wins (Preston and Cardiff) feel like losses now because we know we should not let it go to the point it got to,” the USA international told The Chronicle.
“That’s a good thing. We’re upset about wins now too if we don’t think we did everything right.
“We’ll take a narrow win, but we want to control games a lot better. There will be games when you win 1-0 but you control things.
“Against Cardiff we could have controlled it better and made things easier on ourselves. That’s how it goes sometimes but the most important thing is getting three points.”
Yedlin’s comments make for a refreshing change from the negative, defeatist mentality shared by the players under Steve McClaren’s reign last season – when losing without remorse became second nature.
Yedlin is currently away with the U.S national team ahead of their World Cup qualifying games against Mexico and Costa Rica.
