Wijnaldum hints at wanting Premier League football

Following Newcastle United’s relegation from the top tier of English football, Dutch international Georginio Wijnaldum has failed to commit his future at the Club, whilst hinting at a possible exit.

Wijinaldum has hinted at wanting to play for a ‘beautiful club’ back in the Premier League, but has also stated he hasn’t put much ‘thought’ into his Newcastle future.

Many teams from England’s top flight are said to be interested in the Dutchman’s services, including Everton and Southampton who’ve both sent scouts to today’s Netherlands game to watch the creative midfielder.

However, Toon boss Rafael Benitez is said to be keen on keeping the 25-year-old at the Club, but the player himself is yet to comment on whether he’ll be at St James’ Park next season – playing Championship football.

The coach decides whether he takes me also to Oranje if I play a league lower – but to be honest, I haven’t thought about it. Of course I want to play at as high level as possible, in the Premier League, with a beautiful club – but not everything always goes the way you want. I will see what happens.

Wijnaldum was Newcastle’s top goalscorer last campaign, netting 11 times – with every goal coming at the home of the Geordies.

However, between January and May, the midfielder went 16 games without a goal.
