Aleksandar Mitrovic insists he wants to remain a Newcastle United player, despite the club’s recent relegation to the Championship.
The Serbian striker has been a hit with the fans this season, by virtue of his passionate performances and undeniable love for the club. In his debut season on Tyneside, Mitrovic netted nine times and assisted four times – though his ill-discipline will be a cause for concern after yesterday’s display.
Mitrovic started the game brightly yesterday, setting up the opener before heading an effort Alan Shearer would have been proud of past the onlooking Hugo Lloris.

Shortly after the hour mark, Mitrovic had a severe rush of blood to the head and clattered into Spurs full-back Kyle Walker, before falling to the floor and feigning an injury. Anthony Taylor saw past his terrible acting and dismissed the 21-year-old.
While he can be a risk at times (as yesterday showcased for all to see), Mitrovic’s determination and commitment have never been in doubt and he would be one of Newcastle’s most prized assets if he were to remain in the Championship.
Many expect Mitrovic to be poached by one of his many potential suitors, but the former Anderlecht starlet insists he wants to remain on Tyneside.
When asked whether he will still be at Newcastle next season, Mitrovic told The Chronicle: “I hope so.”
