Newcastle United have reached an agreement in principle with Seneca CF to sign Spanish playmaker Lucas Vacas.
Vacas impressed Graham Carr’s scouting team, who have been tracking the 16-year-old for some time, but he must now showcase his ability to Football Development manager Peter Beardsley and Academy manager Joe Joyce before he puts pen-to-paper on a youth contract.
Cordoba Deporte report Lucas is set for a week long trial and, provided he impresses, his move to Tyneside could be finalised as early as next week.
Vacas will hope to follow in the footsteps of fellow countryman Ayoze Perez, who has excelled for Newcastle since arriving from Tenerife in 2014.

When Perez first arrived on Tyneside, nobody predicted that he would blossom into a star in his debut season in the Premier League.
The Spaniard, 22, cost approximately £1.4million (as per transfermarkt) and was expected to work under Peter Beardsley in the reserves. However, a string of injuries and suspensions to Newcastle’s forwards saw then manager Alan Pardew turn to young Ayoze – and we haven’t looked back since.
Perez has netted six times (one less than last season’s tally) in 23 appearances so far this season – an impressive feat considering a lot of his appearances were off the bench and spent out-wide.
