According to The Chronicle, former Newcastle United midfielder Mehdi Abeid is open to a return to St. James’ Park.
The Algerian, who joined from Lens in 2011, reportedly loved life in Newcastle and would still rejoin the club should they drop into the Championship.
Abeid only made 21 appearances in five years at the club, however, he impressed on loan at Panathinaikos, eventually making a permanent switch for an undisclosed fee and he is now being valued at around £3-million.
This season Abeid has impressed even more, with scouts from top clubs such as FC Porto, Valencia, and Marseille keeping close tabs on the 23-year old.
However, Abeid is said to want to prove himself to the Newcastle United fans, despite being told just nine months ago that he had no future at the club.
Newcastle United’s midfield has woefully underperformed this season, with Jack Colback and Vurnon Anita failing to build any sort of partnership in the earlier stages of the season. Cheick Tiote has edged closer and closer to a move away and new man Jonjo Shelvey has been inconsistent for both Steve McClaren and Rafa Benitez.
