Newcastle United are embroiled in a third relegation battle in four years, while Tottenham are breathing down Leicester City’s neck at the opposite end of the table, but Andros Townsend insists he does not regret joining the Magpies.
Townsend had fallen out of favour at White Hart Lane, prior to his move to Tyneside, and was being forced to play under-21 football. Mauricio Pochettino no longer needed the 24-year-old and Daniel Levy alerted clubs of his availability.
A number of clubs were reportedly interested in Townsend, but Newcastle were the only ones willing to follow up their initial interest and handed him a lifeline.

Since completing his £12million switch, Tottenham’s title bid has surged, while Newcastle’s position has worsened significantly.
The Magpies have picked up just eight points since the turn of the year and now sit in 19th place, six points adrift from safety. With six of last season’s top 10 remaining in their final seven games, Newcastle’s position looks bleak.
Despite the club’s position, Townsend remains delighted with his move and is fully focused on securing Premier League survival.

“I definitely don’t have any regrets,” he told the Shields Gazette, following the sucker punch dealt by Norwich City at Carrow Road on Saturday.
I’m playing for a massive club and playing Premier League football.
“I’m playing 90 minutes of games, and I’m 100 per cent delighted with the move I made to Newcastle. I’ll give absolutely everything to help this club stay in the league.
“It’s mad we are where we are,” he added. “For me, we’ve got an incredible squad, full of internationals in almost every position. It’s crazy that we’re in the position we’re in.”
