Newcastle United have re-enquired about Chelsea forward Loic Remy, according to ESPN FC. The Tyneside club seem to be in pole position, following Crystal Palace’s decision to not follow up initial interest.
Newcastle had been interested in West Brom’s Saido Berahino, however the clubs reluctance to let the forward leave seems to have ended any chances of the deal.
The deal for Remy would likely be a six month loan deal, with the player looking to play European football beyond this season.
A deal has been discussed for weeks, but Chelsea’s pursuit of Alexandre Pato seems to be the catalyst for the move. The Mirror are reporting the Brazilian will fly in to London tonight to finalise the deal.
The Frenchman will be looking for regular first team football, with the European Championships being held in his native land this summer.
Remy scored 14 goals in 26 appearances for the Magpies in the 2013/14 season, and could be the catalyst to keep McClaren’s men in the Premier League.
