Newcastle agree fee for Townsend

Newcastle United have agreed a fee with Tottenham Hotspur for England winger Andros Townsend.

Townsend hasn’t started a league game for Spurs this season, with his last appearance coming in the Europa League in October and he has appeared to have fallen down the pecking order at Spurs having featured mostly for the under 21’s this season.

With Euro 2016 quickly approaching, Townsend will want to be back playing regular first team football as he aims to be part of Roy Hodgson’s squad.

Townsend has been demoted since he had a bust-up with fitness coach Nathan Gardiner earlier this season and doesn’t seem to be in Mauricio’s plans as he looks to take Spurs back into the Champions League.

Newcastle have been linked with a move for the England international over the last few weeks, and now it appears that they have their man.
