According to The Daily Mail, Newcastle United will play Sunderland in a ‘secret’ game this weekend.
Craig Hope broke the news, which has surprised everyone from the fans to the backroom staff at both sides. Senior players will take part in the match, with the game being behind closed doors.
There’s obviously the risk of injury to both sets of players, even the risk of a demise in morale should either side lose.
However, with both clubs having being knocked out of the FA Cup, the game time may be valuable in keeping players match-sharp as the run in looms, and it looks like the managers of both teams feel that a game is more useful than getting the players to take part in football training drills.
Newcastle United will face Sunderland AFC at St James’ Park on the 20th of March. The game could be the key to survival for either the Black Cats or the Magpies.
Sunderland are two points adrift of Newcastle United, in-turn Newcastle are two points behind 17th placed Norwich City.
