Newcastle United are set to be boosted by the return of Shane Ferguson. The Northern Ireland winger, who can also play at left back, will attempt to revive his career on Tyneside following a loan spell at Millwall.
Reports in the South London-Today suggested a fee was agreed between the two clubs for Ferguson’s permanent signature, however the players wages proved to be a sticking point.
According to the article, Ferguson’s representatives attempted to negotiate a severance package with United, with the outcome being unsuccessful.
Ferguson has made 74 appearances throughout his career, with the majority coming from loan spells. He spent the end of the 2012/13 season on loan at Birmingham City, then rejoining the club for the 2013/14 season. Overall he made 29 appearances for the Midlands club. He then moved to Rangers in the infamous five man deal, failing to make a single appearance for the Scottish giants.
Ferguson has made 24 appearances for Millwall, scoring twice.
