Newcastle United have reportedly made a bid of €1.5-million for Espanyol striker Mamadou. According to Sport, a Catalan newspaper, Steve McClaren has turned to the 21-year old, who would mainly feature in the development squad should he sign.
The Senegalese striker, who has made six substitute appearance for Espanyol, has also been linked with Belgian side Beveren.
Mamadou has scored 16 times for Espanyol B, playing 64 times. He was loaned out to Racing Santander and scored three goals in 11 outings.
Newcastle have dipped into the Spanish market before, signing Ayoze Perez for €1.2-million from Tenerife. Perez was signed under the impression he would feature for the development squad for at least a year before making a transition into the main squad. However Perez impressed so much in the Under-21 side, he was immediately moved into the main side.
According to The Chronicle Newcastle’s main striking target is Saido Berahino, as Steve McClaren looks to add extra firepower to his squad.
