Reports coming out of TalkSport state that Watford are set to beat Newcastle United and Leicester City to the signing of Abdoulaye Doucoure.
The 23-year-old has appeared 13 times for Stade Rennais so far in Ligue 1, but looks to be set to move. Watford, Leicester and Newcastle were all reportedly interested in making the youngster part of their squad.
Watford had a bid rejected in the summer, rumoured to be around £7.3-million, however no deal materialised before the closing of the window.
Following the last minute collapse in the summer window, Watford have renewed their bid, offering around £5-million. However the Ligue 1 club want around £7-million for him.
It is expected the two clubs will meet in the middle.
The deal doesn’t look to have harmed Newcastle too much, with the signings of Jonjo Shelvey and Henri Saivet bolstering the midfield ranks.
