Newcastle United are set to bid £7-million for former target Bafetimbi Gomis according to Wales Online. The Swansea player was thought to be bought as a replacement for Wilfried Bony, however hasn’t found any consistency in his game.
Newcastle were interested in Gomis when his contract with Lyon was expiring, however couldn’t agree on personal terms with the target man. Swansea swooped in and took Gomis.
Gomis has scored just 12 goals in 50 appearances for the relegation strugglers. Alan Curtis is thought to have offered the player so as to free up room to bring in a new goal-scoring threat.
Newcastle are thought to be interested in Gomis as he will provide cover and could even be a replacement for injured frontman Papiss Cisse.
Gomis has made 12 appearances for the French national side, as well as being included in the Euro 2008 squad.
