The Daily Mail have reported that Newcastle United have received a huge boost for this weekends tie with Watford, after debutant Jonjo Shelvey was cleared of any wrongdoing.
Shelley appeared to block the run of Enner Valencia during United’s 2-1 win over the Hammers at the weekend. The FA were said to be waiting for the refereeing reports to determine whether Shelvey could face retrospective action.
Shelvey seemed confident of avoiding any ban, telling the media;
It was more of a coming-together. He was trying to get in the box and I was trying to get out of the way. I felt contact on my shoulder and have obviously lent in with my shoulder. People are saying it’s a red card, but it’s part of football, you are going to have comings-together. I did apologise and he’s apologised to me, it’s one of those things that happens in football. I can’t wait to get back out there against Watford
Shelvey, who was a key player in the result, was backed up by manager Steve McClaren in the post-match interviews.
Newcastle will travel to Watford having lost a close game against The Hornets just 2 weeks ago. They will surely be confident of gaining a better result following a stout performance against West Ham.
