Reports coming out of Sky Sports Current England international, Jonjo Shelvey, has signed a five-and-a-half year deal with Newcastle United. The former Swansea man put pen to paper after the clubs agreed a £12 million fee. The signing shows a strong statement of intent not previously witnessed at Newcastle United, with the club taking both the serious threat of relegation and of course, their the future very seriously.
Shelvey joins Henri Saivet in becoming a Newcastle United player, in being their second signing of the month. However, the news of his arrival upon Tyneside does seem to spell the end of Ivorian international Cheick Tiote, who has been linked with a move to China recently.
Shelvey started his career at Charlton Athletic, breaking records including becoming their youngest ever first team player at 16 years and 59 days old. Liverpool then signed the youngster in 2010 for an initial £1.7-million, before being loaned out around the Football League. Shelvey finally seemed to settle and produced his best football in Swansea, moving to the Liberty Stadium for a reported £5 million.
