Following a season-ending injury sustained by first-choice goalkeeper Tim Krul, Newcastle United entered the transfer market for a potential loan signing to replace the Dutchman as number one for the remainder of the season.
One potential target who will not be joining the Magpies, contrary to reports in France, is Italian stopper Salvatore Sirigu, who currently plies his trade in the French first division with Paris Saint-Germain.
The 28-year-old looks destined to leave the French giants on loan in January, having been seemingly forced out, but Steve McClaren (as per The Chronicle) has denied that his destination will be Tyneside.
Instead, it looks increasingly likely that Newcastle will put their faith in Irish stopper Rob Elliot, now that back-up ‘keeper Karl Darlow has returned from injury.
Elliot has impressed since taking over from Tim Krul and recently earned our Player of the Month award for November for his fine performances against AFC Bournemouth and Leicester.
