Newcastle United may have endured a poor start to the season, but Moussa Sissoko still believes that the Magpies can achieve a top ten finish – only if they can improve their consistency.
The Magpies currently sit in 18th place, above bitter rivals Sunderland, though they are tied on points (13) with AFC Bournemouth and Norwich City in 17th and 16th place respectively. Should Steve McClaren’s side keep up its recent form, which has seen them secure three wins in their last seven, they should begin to edge away from the relegation battle they are currently engulfed in.

Based on current form (last 7 games), Newcastle are playing like a top ten side and that’s exactly where Moussa Sissoko predicts they will finish.
“If you look at our team, we have good players. We could finish in the top 10,” Sissoko said, as quoted by The Chronicle.
“But for that we have to show every week we are worthy of that. If you look at the season from the beginning we have played some good games and some bad ones.
So we have to be consistent. We need to work on that.
Many predicted a heavy defeat for the Magpies in their most recent outing, but they stunned everybody with an emphatic 2-0 victory over Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool and Sissoko believes the players answered the critics with their performance.

He said: “Against Liverpool we showed good character, we were strong from the beginning to the end. We deserved to win.
I am happy for the team, the fans and everybody in the city. I hope this win will give us more confidence.
“If we can get more confidence then we’ll win more games in the future. I am very happy and very proud of team-mates.
“The last two weeks have been very hard. We have shown some character but we deserved to win against Liverpool to get this victory.”

Reporters then asked Sissoko about his own performance against the Reds. The Frenchman’s willingness to drive at the opposition caused Liverpool problems throughout. Sissoko said: “It’s my forte. I have a lot of energy and I need to use it to good effect on the pitch.
At the end I got the ball and made the assist for Gini so I am happy.
“We can enjoy this week, and start preparing for Tottenham.”
