Newcastle United defender Chancel Mbemba has been rated the best-performing Under 21 central defender by The CIES Football Observatory report themag.co.uk
The football statisticians based in Switzerland have based their analysis based on the data provided by OptaPro, who takes into six key area’s of the game and they are:
Rigour, distribution, chance creation, shooting, take on and recovery.
Only those who have played for at least 60 percent of domestic league minutes are included in the analysis.
In each category, the top 15 Premier League players were listed.
Newcastle player Mbemba was the only Magpies player to be included in the top 75 performing players.
The 21-year-old defender was ranked 12th out of all the Premier League central defenders, but when the under 21 category was applied Mbemba was top.
The news will give Newcastle fans something to smile about after a poor start to Steve McClaren’s reign as manager, with the Magpies still searching for their first win of the season after seven league games.
