Steve McClaren is believed to have been left fuming after Papiss Cissé failed to report for a meeting with the Magpies boss, writes the Daily Mail.
The former Derby and England manager scheduled individual meetings with each of his players during the international break, but was left twiddling his thumbs by an absent Cissé.
Though the meeting was later rescheduled, Cissé has since fallen under heavy criticism over his perceived work ethic and time management.
Former Magpies striker Alan Shearer has added to criticism of the Senegalese international, questioning Cissé’s “hunger” for goals during the side’s 2-0 defeat to West Ham United.
Despite the apparent rift between the two, McClaren was forced to play Cissé as a lone striker against West Ham on Sunday following the recent sending off of new signing Mitrovic.
McClaren’s Newcastle have struggled for form this season and currently languish at the bottom of the table, having taken only 2 points from their first 5 league matches.
