Upon his return from his summer holiday next week, Steve McClaren will be unveiled as the new Newcastle United head coach, according to the Chronicle.
The North-East based, news outlet also addresses the prime targets for the Magpies this summer, stating that a new striker and defender will be specifically focused on. In recent weeks, Newcastle have been heavily linked with moves for QPR striker Charlie Austin and Hull City centre-back James Chester.
It appears the futures of many of the subordinate coaches in the Magpies’ setup appear to be set, as Steve Stone, Andy Woodman and Peter Beardsley are all expected to be kept when McClaren arrives. Furthermore, John Carver should be resuming his assistant role after having been the caretaker manager for the second half of the season.
However, Woodman may still follow former boss Alan Pardew to Crystal Palace.
Eric Steele, whose playing career began as a goalkeeper at Newcastle, and since has served as goalkeeper coach at Manchester United, Manchester City, and mostly recently under McClaren at Derby County, could be Woodman’s replacement.
Finally, Lee Clark is said to have been approach by the club as well for a position in some coaching capacity. The former Newcastle midfielder mostly recently served as Blackpool manager.
