This week, I was prepped to write a balanced, fair, non-biased outlook of this #BotcottSpurs campaign. I didn’t want to write one straight after Newcastle’s 5th consecutive defeat in the league against Liverpool, I wanted to approach it a little more level headed.
However, in light of Newcastle United’s balance sheets being available from Companies House for £1, it’s now come out that an extra £34.1 million has been sitting in a hidden bank account, transferred out of the Magpies’. On or off the pitch, quite frankly Ashley doesn’t deserve our support. The board are liars and haven’t changed since 2009 when they were proved of misleading the fans and Kevin Keegan alike.
I want to keep this short because when it comes to Newcastle United there isn’t a lot more to be said, everyone’s just repeating each other’s sentiments. Mike Ashley doesn’t care for any of us, he cares for what’s in our wallets and purses. Once you stop handing over cash to him, whilst he runs the club into the ground on a shoe string, flirting with relegation and reaping the rewards, only then he may listen.
I’ve not ever had a season ticket at Newcastle, I am only 23 and live hundreds of miles away from St James’ Park. That said, had I been around 20 years ago, I’d have easily travelled across the UK & Europe for my beloved club. Not for their success, but for their will, drive, ambition and determination to always better themselves season after season.
Now the board run a club set up as a midway stop for top players to spend a couple of seasons before being on their jolly way to a Champions League side, something we never intend to be under Mike Ashley and co.
Boycott Spurs, the players don’t try for us, bar a select view (Jonas, Janmaat, Colback & Perez), and the board keep lying to us. Even if I lived in South Shields, you’d not see me at St James’ Park this Sunday.
I have cancelled my membership, I won’t buy anymore officially licensed Newcastle United merchandise from the club shop, nor buy anything from any Sports Direct outlet.
Ultimately, it’s your choice. If you feel a dire urge to go into the game this Sunday and still support your team, I couldn’t and wouldn’t stop you – we’re all our own people. All I would hope if you do attend on Sunday is that you make it as hostile for Mike as possible and spur on our side to get a result against a shaky Tottenham side.
