Newcastle United are among a number of potential suitors hoping to secure the signing of veteran midfielder Jérémy Toulalan at the end of the season, on a free transfer, according to TalkSPORT.
With just six months remaining on his current contract, Jeremy, who can now sign a pre-contract agreement with another club, looks set to depart AS Monaco this summer.
Although rumours have surfaced suggesting Italian outlet Inter Milan have offered the 31-year-old a two-year deal, the Magpies remain hopeful of securing the Frenchman’s signature.
If a deal were to be agreed by both parties, it is more than likely that Toulalan would put pen-to-paper on a short-term deal, with an optional year extension.
One potential stumbling block that could scupper this move is the Monaco midfielder’s wage demands that are likely to be £70,000-a-week minimum – significantly higher than Newcastle would be willing to offer.
