Al Ahli are reportedly weighing up a move for Newcastle United striker Papiss Cisse, as the Dubai-based club look to bolster their attacking threat.
It is believed the Arabian Gulf League champions are willing to offer Cisse a lucrative deal worth, in the region of, £150,000-a-week – over treble his current wage with the Magpies.
A source close to the club told UAE’s sports paper ‘Sport 360’: “Cisse is one of a small number of strikers we are looking at.”
“The only difficulty is that we are so close to the transfer window closing [tonight]. This is making things more problematic as we have little time to manoeuvre.”
If Mike Ashley were to cash in on the Senegal international, it would deal a significant blow to interim boss John Carver who would be unable to delve into the transfer market for a replacement.
Cisse is Newcastle’s top goalscorer this season, with 10 goals in 16 appearances.
