Davide Santon is set to return to his former club after Inter Milan agree a six-month loan deal for the Italian left-back with Newcastle United.
After commencing talks with Newcastle earlier today over the possibility of taking Santon on loan for the remainder of the season, both parties thrashed out a deal that sees the Italian join Inter on an initial six month loan.
The deal also includes an obligatory future fee, expected to be in the region of £4million (€5.5million), if Davide makes 13 appearances during his loan spell.
Santon arrived at St James’ Park in August 2011, and has since become a first-team regular.
However, after Santon sustained a lengthy injury earlier this year, Newcastle promoted Massadio Haidara to become their first choice left-back, which has opened the door for Davide Santon to leave the club permanently in the summer.
The opportunity to return to his home country, coupled with the potential lack of first-team football at St James’ Park, should see the 24-year-old agree to join Inter on loan before tomorrow’s deadline.
West Ham and West Brom also held an interest in signing Davide but, once he heard of Inter’s interest, he only had eyes for a return to Milan.
