Newcastle United reportedly have the option to recall Ousmane Diabaté in January, although the midfielder is currently expected to continue his development in Turkey.
Diabaté joined Newcastle from Gençlerbirliği in September before returning to the Turkish club on loan for the 2026/27 season.
NUFC Blog, citing reporting by the i Paper’s Mark Douglas, says Newcastle included a January recall option in the arrangement.
However, the same account states that remaining in Turkey is the current expectation. There is no reported decision to bring him back midway through the campaign.
Ousmane Diabaté recall option gives Newcastle flexibility
The distinction matters. A recall option would allow Newcastle to reconsider the loan if circumstances change, without making a January return the immediate plan.
Diabaté has also been gaining competitive experience with Guinea. He completed 90 minutes in Thursday’s 1-0 victory over Kenya, having previously appeared from the bench against South Africa.
That international involvement adds to the senior football available during his loan.
For Newcastle, any decision should weigh the opportunities he would receive on Tyneside against the value of continuing his development at Gençlerbirliği.
Bringing him back would only make sense if there were a clear role for him. The ability to end a loan early is useful protection, but it does not make doing so the best route for a young player.
For now, the reported arrangement gives Newcastle a choice in January while Diabaté continues building experience away from the club.
