Sean Steur Voted Newcastle’s Top Summer Transfer in Fan Poll
Sean Steur has topped a ChronicleLive fan poll of Newcastle United’s eight summer signings. Supporters named the Sean Steur Newcastle transfer as the club’s standout piece of summer business. The 18-year-old Dutch midfielder joined Newcastle from Ajax for £23m during the summer window.
Steur has settled quickly into Matthias Jaissle’s squad. He arrived at St James’ Park during the summer. His performances in Newcastle’s opening fixtures have already made him a firm favourite with supporters who took part in the poll.
Steur finished ahead of seven other summer arrivals. The result shows the impression he has made in a short time at Newcastle.
ChronicleLive Survey Ranks Eight New Arrivals at St James’ Park
The ChronicleLive fan poll asked Newcastle supporters to rank all eight of the club’s summer signings on their contributions so far this season. Amar Dedic finished second in the vote, with goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek placed third.
Bazoumana Toure scored twice despite receiving limited playing time, a return that stood out to many of the supporters who responded to the poll. Newcastle’s two most expensive summer signings, Matias Fernandez-Pardo and Nico Gonzalez, have each featured in four games so far this season.

Dedic and Hornicek Impress as Gonzalez Suffers Early Setback
The Sean Steur Newcastle transfer may have topped the poll, but Dedic and Hornicek were not far behind him in the final standings. Both players have made a strong case for their own places in Jaissle’s side this season.
Hornicek has played in all but one of Newcastle’s opening seven games, a run of appearances that helped him finish third in the poll. Dedic’s consistent form at right back earned him second place behind Steur.
Gonzalez has had a tougher start to life on Tyneside. He picked up a head injury early in Newcastle’s game against Leeds United, an issue that ruled him out of the club’s recent win over Hull City. That result is covered in more detail in our match report from St James’ Park.
Jaissle Prepares Squad with Summer Additions Gaining First-Team Minutes
Jaissle has already relied on his new signings during Newcastle’s opening fixtures. The summer arrivals are starting to shape his selections at St James’ Park. Fernandez-Pardo has also continued to build his match fitness. That comes despite his frustration on international duty this month.
Toure remains behind Newcastle’s more established forwards. However, his two goals in limited minutes could earn him a bigger role. Gonzalez’s return from his head injury will give Jaissle another option. It will also leave him with a fully fit group of summer signings.
Steur, Dedic and Hornicek have already shown they can handle regular first-team football. Their form will only increase the competition for places as the season continues.
