Newcastle United youngster Michael Mills continued his impressive start to international football by scoring the winner for England Under-18s against Egypt.
The 17-year-old came off the bench and struck in the 82nd minute as England secured a 2-1 victory at the UEFA Friendship Cup in Switzerland.
It was Mills’ second goal in as many appearances after he also scored in England’s opening win over Colombia.
That first performance was part of an encouraging night for Newcastle’s academy, with Read Newcastle reporting how four Magpies youngsters featured in the 3-2 victory over Colombia.
Michael Mills makes another England impact
England took the lead against Egypt through Ryan Kavuma-McQueen before Khaled Mokhtar equalised with 11 minutes remaining.
Mills had been introduced shortly before the equaliser and quickly made his mark.
According to the official England match report, the Newcastle winger raced onto Jashayde Greenwood’s pass before finishing beneath the goalkeeper to restore England’s lead three minutes after Egypt had levelled.
The victory means England have won their opening two matches and secured their place in the semi-finals with a group fixture still to play.
Mills’ contribution adds to a strong international break for Newcastle’s academy players, which Read Newcastle is following through its international tracker.
Kyran Thompson and Sam Alabi also featured against Egypt, while Roman Dowell was an unused substitute.
Mills has attracted further attention this month after being named among the substitutes for Newcastle’s Premier League victory over Hull City.
His latest England performance provides another encouraging sign of his progress, with the teenager now having scored twice during his first U18 international camp.
England complete their group programme against South Korea on Wednesday.
