Belgium make Matias Fernandez-Pardo call for huge France clash

Matias Fernandez-Pardo has been named among Belgium’s substitutes for Monday night’s UEFA Nations League meeting with France.

The Newcastle United forward remains part of Mark van Bommel’s senior squad after making an appearance in Belgium’s 2-0 victory over Italy on Friday.

Fernandez-Pardo was introduced late in that game, earning further senior international minutes just weeks after completing his move to St James’ Park.

Belgium have opted for Charles De Ketelaere in attack against France, with Kevin De Bruyne, Mika Godts and Diego Moreira also included in the starting side.

Fernandez-Pardo is among the attacking options available from the bench alongside Romelu Lukaku, Lois Openda and Dodi Lukebakio.

UEFA’s official squad list confirms the Newcastle forward remains involved for the second Nations League fixture of the international window.

The 21-year-old has already begun establishing himself under Matthias Jaissle since arriving from Lille on deadline day.

His intensity has been one of the early features of his Newcastle performances, with Read Newcastle recently highlighting how Fernandez-Pardo recorded 28 sprints against Hull City.

Any involvement against France would provide another useful test at international level before he eventually returns to Tyneside.
