Newcastle United youngster Alfie Hutchison has taken another significant step in his development after making his full debut for Scotland Under-19s.
The 17-year-old started as Scotland came from behind to beat Finland 3-1 in Alicante, adding an international milestone to an impressive opening few weeks of the season.
Hutchison has scored six goals in his first five Under-18 Premier League appearances for Newcastle, form which has now been rewarded at international level.
The forward’s progress adds another name to a growing group of Magpies academy players making an impact during the international break.
Alfie Hutchison continues rapid Newcastle rise
Newcastle confirmed Hutchison’s Scotland breakthrough, with Tam Courts’ side recovering from conceding inside the opening minute to secure victory through goals from Alexander Smith, Max Cameron and Callan Hamill.
Hutchison joined Newcastle’s academy from Rangers in July 2025 and signed his first professional contract earlier this year.
His goalscoring form has accelerated this season, including a hat-trick in Newcastle Under-18s’ 4-1 victory over Leicester City.
The teenager’s development comes during a period in which Newcastle have placed increased emphasis on their pathway from academy football towards the first team.
He is also one of a sizeable group of young Magpies currently representing their countries, with Read Newcastle’s international tracker following every Newcastle player involved during the break.
The Scottish FA confirmed Hutchison’s inclusion for three matches in Spain against Finland, Czechia and Ukraine.
For Hutchison, the challenge is now to maintain a start to the season which has already brought goals for Newcastle and a first Scotland Under-19 appearance.
