Newcastle United have continued reshaping their recruitment department after senior football executive Andy Howe left the club following five years at St James’ Park.
The i Paper reports, via The Mag, that Howe has departed Newcastle to pursue a new challenge, with the exit understood to be amicable.
Howe, nephew of former boss Eddie, had worked his way through Newcastle’s scouting structure after initially joining as head of first-team technical scouting.
He later became assistant head of first-team recruitment before progressing into the senior football executive role under sporting director Ross Wilson.
Andy Howe departure continues Newcastle recruitment overhaul
His exit represents another significant change behind the scenes.
Former head of recruitment Steve Nickson has also left St James’ Park, with Read Newcastle recently assessing the importance of Newcastle’s recruitment structure amid interest in Nickson.
That leaves Wilson overseeing an increasingly refreshed operation following a summer of major change both on and off the pitch.
Andy Howe is reported to have played an influential role in several Newcastle deals during his time at the club.
He has been credited with significant work behind the recruitment of Sandro Tonali and also played a part in bringing Malick Thiaw to Tyneside.
Howe also remained involved during Newcastle’s major squad rebuild this summer as Wilson reshaped the playing group around new head coach Matthias Jaissle.
Jaissle’s arrival itself followed the departure of Eddie Howe in July, beginning a wider period of transition at St James’ Park.
Read Newcastle has already detailed some of the changes made since Jaissle took charge.
Ross Wilson now shaping Newcastle’s next recruitment model
The latest departure places even greater responsibility on Wilson as Newcastle develop the next version of their scouting and recruitment operation.
Long-serving figures remain within the department, but the exits of Nickson and Andy Howe underline how quickly the structure around the first team is evolving.
Newcastle completed an extensive rebuild during the summer transfer window, with the club targeting younger players capable of developing under Jaissle.
Howe had helped prepare for that overhaul before deciding to move on.
His departure therefore closes another chapter from the previous recruitment setup while Wilson continues putting his own structure in place at St James’ Park.
