Newcastle United were hopeful of carrying on their newfound momentum after undergoing a rebuild this summer. The Magpies have seemed up for it from the very first match of the season against Liverpool.
The club had to deal with the departure of key players such as Bruno Guimaraes, Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali. They chose to go a different route, bringing in youngsters instead of proven players.
Unsurprisingly, the Magpies will need time to get used to all the new changes the club has implemented. The early results were above expectations but only managed a draw when they faced Bournemouth last weekend. Newcastle United conceded two goals within 35 minutes, although they managed to recover and eventually finish the game 2-2.
It is understandable for all supporters that a team undergoing a revamp cannot deliver results from the very beginning. But the performances can provide insight into what the team is capable of in the long run.
Newcastle United will now enter the third round of the English League Cup. They are travelling to London to face Millwall at The Den.

Match Preview
Millwall’s season under Alex Neil has been average so far, with the club currently sitting seventh in the Championship. They have scored 10 goals but have also conceded eight.
Since the club has failed to advance beyond the third round of the League Cup for more than two decades. If they manage to pull off a win tonight, it will be a piece of history at the Den.
However, the odds are very much against Millwall overcoming the Magpies, although a few key Newcastle players are still sidelined due to injuries. Nevertheless, Jaissle’s team will need to produce their best if they do not want to be on the end of an upset.
One would imagine that Newcastle United should have enough in the tank to get past Millwall. But it is never set in stone, especially way from home at the Den.
