Newcastle United have a lot of work to do over the final few days of the summer transfer window. They continue to be linked with a variety of players.
It makes perfect sense as well. There are a number of positions across the pitch where they still need to improve upon their starters or add some quality in depth.
At the same time, perhaps there are quite a few players who do not have a future at St James’ Park. Finding a last-minute switch for them would be best for all parties involved.
Interestingly, it looks like one Newcastle United player has made a U-turn, if reports coming out of the media are on the mark. Earlier, it had been suggested that he wanted to stay. But now, he seems to be seeking an exit.
Newcastle United player makes U-turn
According to an earlier report this month from Football Insider, Nick Woltemade had reiterated his desire to stay at Newcastle United this summer.
But today, journalist Nicolo Schira is reporting that Woltemade wants to leave Newcastle United, which has opened the door to a sale on loan with the option to buy.
That is quite the U-turn. But then again, it does not take long for things to change in football. And considering Woltemade’s poor start to the season, it makes sense for him to reconsider his future.
It just does not feel like he is a good fit for the system that Matthias Jaissle wants his team to play. And with Yoane Wissa looking resurgent, the German striker might find himself on the bench more often than not.
The game against West Bromwich Albion was a good chance for Woltemade to make an impression. Instead, his display underlined why it is not working for him at Newcastle United.
Issue with Nick Woltemade’s transfer exit
Newcastle United shelled out a transfer package in the region of £69 million to sign Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart this summer. For a club in the Magpies’ financial situation, they have to be smart about how they engineer his exit,
Not a lot of clubs would be willing to pay anywhere close to that to sign Woltemade at this moment. It would be unrealistic to expect that.
So, a loan with an option to buy might be Newcastle United’s best hope. Perhaps Woltemade can find himself a club that is a good stylistic fit for him, do well there and then get himself a permanent move that helps the Magpies recoup as much of the transfer fee as possible.
