Fabrizio Romano confirms midfielder has rejected three clubs and agreed to join Newcastle United

It would be an understatement to say that Newcastle United have faced a tough time getting deals done this summer. There are so many players they have been linked with, but not managed to sign.

Midfield is an area in particular need of reinforcements. But unfortunately, the Magpies have not been able to land a ready-made first-team starter there.

They had tried to bring in Johan Manzambi, but he chose to join Aston Villa instead. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was also not ready to make the move to Newcastle United even though that has not pleased Marseille ownership. And Joao Palhinha seems to be eyeing other destinations as well.

So far, their only additions to the midfield department have been an 18-year-old Sean Steur from Ajax and a 20-year-old Aladji Bamba. And now, it looks like the Magpies are set to add another teenage midfielder to their ranks, but not immediately.

Fabrizio Romano confirms Newcastle United deal agreed

According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle United have agreed a deal to sign Ousmane Diabate from Turkish side Genclerbirligi. The midfielder picked the project over three more proposals from European clubs. He will be staying at his current club on loan.

Of course, Newcastle United fans will know the value of players who do want to join the club. Diabate has turned down other offers for this move.

That being said, he is not someone who is going to have an impact on the first team anytime soon. In fact, the Magpies recognise that as well, which is why he is going to continue on loan in Turkey for the time being.

Diabate is a long-term signing for Newcastle United. But they also need to bring in some players who are going to improve the team from day one. Not enough of those signings have been made this summer.

Newcastle need midfield signings

Nico Gonzalez is one quality midfielder who has been linked with Newcastle United in recent days. His future at Manchester City seems to be up in the air.

But would Gonzalez be open to the idea of joining Newcastle United? That remains to be seen and could prove to be the determining factor in any move.

With not much time left in the summer transfer window, Newcastle United should be aiming to get a deal over the line as soon as possible.

On the other hand, another one of their midfielders, Joe Willock, has been the subject of a transfer bid from Besiktas. One would hope that the Magpies are not considering it until they have strengthened their midfield options.
