Sky Sport man confirms Newcastle United contact for RB Leipzig midfielder

Since the arrival of Matthias Jaissle as the new manager of Newcastle United, replacing Eddie Howe, one theme that I have noticed is that the club have been targeting players that he is already familiar with and has worked with in the past.

That is exactly what has happened with Amar Dedic, who is thought to have arrived in Newcastle to complete his move from Benfica. The two had worked together at both FC Leifering and RB Salzburg.

One would imagine that familiarity played a part in Newcastle United making a move for him. And now, it looks like the club are looking to reunite Jaissle with another one of his former colleagues.

According to Sky Sports journalist Philipp Hinze, Newcastle United have enquired about Nicolas Seiwald. The Magpies are interested in the Austrian international midfielder.

Jaissle is said to be a fan of Seiwald. But he is still firmly part of RB Leipzig’s plans. The midfielder is on Newcastle United’s radar, but nothing more has happened so far.

Jaissle knows Seiwald even better than Dedic. While the former has played 91 games under the German manager, the latter has done so only 52 times.

So, it is quite clear that Jaissle rates Seiwald highly. If the Magpies are able to complete this move, it would have to be considered a major coup for them.

Do not let all the talk about Jaissle and his time working with Seiwald in the past distract you from the talented that the midfielder is, even without that.

He is 25 years of age and has played 105 times for RB Leipzig since arriving at the German club in 2023. He has also represented Austria at the international level on 51 occasions.

So, it would be unfair to base this move just on the familiarity that he has with the Newcastle United boss. Even on his own, Seiwald is a good enough player to make the move to Newcastle United.

Of course, the situation is not thought to be close to completion or anything. So, let us just wait and see how things go from here. But it is quite clear that the Magpies need to strengthen their midfield department this summer following the departures of Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali.
