Newcastle United were not able to replace Alexander Isak last summer. There is simply no hiding from that fact. They did try and splashed out in the transfer market, but the potential replacements failed to meet expectations.
Nick Woltemade was brought in with high hopes. With a unique profile that you rarely see in a striker of his size, it was thought that he could be a game-changer for Newcastle United. But after a bright start, he lost his form and ended the season with just 11 goals. In the final few months of the campaign, he was not even playing as a number 9.
On the other hand, Yoann Wissa was the Premier League-proven option brought in from Brentford after a 20-goal season. He only managed three for Newcastle United.
Naturally, another striker might be needed next season. And it looks like a South American forward, who scored 38 goals in the 25/26 campaign, is on Newcastle United’s radar.
Newcastle United want Luis Suarez
According to Christian Vaquero, Newcastle United are keeping tabs on Luis Suarez’s situation at Sporting CP. If the Colombian keeps pushing for his exit, the Magpies want to be the first to meet with the Lisbon club.
Of course, it is understandable why Newcastle United might be keen on someone like Suarez. The Colombian international’s output over the past couple of seasons has been elite.
He scored 31 goals for Almeria in the Spanish second division. Naturally, there would have been question marks about whether he would be able to replicate that in the top flight.
He did even better, scoring 38 goals for Sporting CP across all competitions last season. Obviously, he has a couple of very famous namesakes in the form of the 1960 Ballon d’Or winner and the modern day Uruguayan icon, but the Colombian is certainly carving out a path of his own in the game as well.
Luis Suarez’s situation at Sporting CP hands Newcastle a chance to sign him
It is worth pointing out that there have been rumours that nothing everything is well behind the scenes at Sporting CP, when it comes to Suarez’s situation.
The player might potentially be keen on an exit. If that is accurate, then even though it has been suggested that Sporting CP want to keep him, the right offer might be welcomed.
Newcastle United were believed to have made an approach back in May as well. Back then, it was suggested that they would need to meet the rumoured €80 million release clause in his contract.
The valuation might have slightly declined since then. It is worth pointing out that Suarez did not start in Sporting CP’s first league game of the season.
